Strategies for a `Broken Brain`
Mental illness and
deterioration of the brain and mental functions are on the rise in our society
and, modern medicine cannot do much about it.
Most conventional doctors are scratching there heads and pulling new
`wonder drugs` out of there hats in the hope that it may help. In many cases, these drugs do little more
than provide temporary relief and they never treat the underlying cause of the
brain deterioration. Most conventional
doctors are simply guessing which drug to prescribe and hoping that the drug
doesn’t cause more damage than it cures…now, there’s a shock.
Illnesses
like depression, ADHD, dementia, anxiety, and autism are becoming much too
common in our present-day society. These
diseases are often caused by nutritional deficiencies in general and, when
dealing with brain disorders and neurological conditions, the B-vitamins in
particular must be considered. The
B-complex vitamins are amongst the most important vitamins for the health of
the brain and nerves and, nearly all of the food in the modern diet has been
depleted of these water soluble vitamins through refinement. Some other deficiencies that will lead to
brain and neurological deterioration include vitamin D, and the omega-3 fatty
acids as well as minerals like manganese, and potassium.
What
conventional medicine must understand is depression is not caused by a Cymbalta
deficiency, ADD is not caused by a Ritalin deficiency, and insomnia is not
caused by a Lunesta deficiency. Apart
from underlying emotional blockages, nutritional deficiencies are the most
common cause of mental deterioration.
The drugs being used for neurological/mental disorders are reported by
users to be only partially effective, less effective over time, and they always
cause unpleasant side effects such as weight gain, and thoughts of
suicide.
The diet is
extremely important due to the fact that these disorders may be caused by
nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, inflammation, digestive problems,
or a build-up of toxins. Eating refined
food results in nutritional deficiencies.
Be sure to eat natural foods and whole grains rather than white bread
and refined food that contains very little nutrition. Eating too many carbohydrates, like sugar,
can result in an excess of insulin which can damage nerve tissue and cause mood
swings. Too many chemicals additives can
cause inflammation. Another major
culprit of inflammation is an imbalance of fatty acids, particularly, an excess
of omega-6 from most meats, dairy, and fast food, and a deficiency of omega-3
from cold-water, wild-caught fish, nuts like walnuts, and seeds like flax. Digestive problems can arise by eating too much
cooked food which lacks enzymes needed for digestion. Temperatures above 118 degrees Fahrenheit
will destroy most enzymes. It is also a
good idea to periodically follow a detoxification program containing cleansing
herbs to sweep out the toxins that have built up from poor diet, and the
environmental pollution.
