Healing with Colors

Colors can be a vivid reminder of the beauty of our world.  They can influence our emotions, our thoughts, and they can even influence our decisions.  That last point is the reason why they are used so much in marketing.  Certain colors can ignite certain emotions and cause us to react in a certain way.

Colors also vibrate at different frequencies, and the frequency of the vibration of the light is what creates the color.  Our eyes only see light, not images.  The brain creates the images based on the light and the vibrations gathered by the eyes.  So, when one ponders this, one realizes that our entire world is created by our brain.  We are merely visitors in a sea of different vibrations…can you really trust your brain?  Are we seeing what is truly there, or are we seeing what our brain wants us to see?

Enough about the brain…I got a bit side-tracked.  Let’s discuss color and how you can begin to use color in your life.

Research at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada suggests that different wavelengths affect people in different ways.  Researchers assessed the effect of a blue computer monitor background versus a red background on 600 students.  It was found that the red background lead to greater recall and attention to detail while the blue background lead to greater creativity.

Ancient healing modalities have used color for thousands of years.  In the ancient traditions of Ayurveda, each of the seven major chakras are represented by a different color, element, crystals, and emotion.  The lowest chakra is the root chakra which is represented by the color red which vibrates at the slowest frequency of all the colors.  The root chakra is also represented by the element of earth which has the lowest vibration of all elements.  As we progress up the line of chakra, from root chakra to crown chakra, the vibration and frequency of the chakra, as well as the color, grows progressively  faster.  The crown chakra, represented by the color purple, has the highest vibration of all the chakras.

Colors can be used to create a balanced flow of energy within the chakras.  They can also be used to balance an emotion associated with a particular chakra.  For example, anger is often associated with the root chakra, and to balance the anger, the root chakra must be balanced with its complimentary color: green.  A feeling of inferiority is associated with the solar plexus chakra and to create feelings of power, use yellow.

These colors can be worn as outer clothes or under clothes.  Bed sheets and blankets of different colors can be used, and the background of your computer monitor can be changed.
