Spiritual and Healing Properties of Sapphire:

Sapphire is acually the name given to all types of corundum except red corundum which is known as Ruby.  Blue sapphires are the most well known and the deep blue is caused by iron oxide and titanium oxide impurities within the matrix of the crystal.  Sapphire do occur in yellow and white, which usually turn blue when exposed to high temperatures.  Second only to diamond, Sapphire has always been one of the most valued gemstones in the world.  It is said that sapphire was worn by royaly for the purposes of protection from harm and protection from envy.  Star sapphire occurs when crystals, ingrown within the sapphire structure, reflect the light shined upon them and were used in medieval Germany as protection from the evil eye.  With its calming and regulating effect on the physical body and mind, sapphire is used at the third-eye chakra to enhace meditations and spiritual work.  Sappire crystals bring relaxation, ease axiety, and enable smooth flow of communication, while stimulating the higher mind to the perception of sbtle energy frequencies.  Star sapphire aids clairvoyance and visionary experience by clearing the third-eye chakra and amplifying psychic energy.
